Dialogic Adds New Media Servers

Moving up the stack, media-processing software provider Dialogic said it’s releasing a new line of media servers and software under the “PowerMedia” name. Designed to enable operators to deliver multimedia over a range of networks, from 4G mobile systems to the PSTN, the new portfolio builds on Dialogic’s family of media processing algorithms, including proprietary video codec technology developed at Dialogic Media Labs.

The new product line is the first major release from Dialogic since it acquired Veraz Networks in May. That deal combined two leading-edge vendors in the advanced IP services space. The addition of Veraz gives Dialogic the switching infrastructure, security and bandwidth optimization to layer around the media gateways and media servers it has developed over the last few years. It also should enable Dialogic, which has mainly sold media gateways and signaling technology, to move up the stack and provide a more complete line of softswitches and application platforms.

That’s the idea behind PowerMedia, which comprises media servers for IP networks and for Web applications, media-processing software, and a media gateway that links Java application servers to Dialogic’s IP-based media server. At the CommunicAsia tradeshow in Singapore last month, Dialogic touted its newly robust technologies for supporting high-quality mobile video.

Originally based in Canada, Dialogic will be headquartered in the former Veraz offices in San Jose, Calif. The combined companies, which will operate under the Dialogic name and trade on the Nasdaq, expect to report revenue greater than $250 million per year; employ 1,000 workers; and have a few thousand customers.
