Extending its reach to third-party developers of Web-based telephony applications, Dialogic today launched a cloud-based developer network. Called “inCloud9,” the new resource is designed to give developers quick access via VPN to tools, APIs, technical documentation and community forums to accelerate the creation of next-generation communications applications, particularly for Web 2.0 environments.
The new developer network builds on the repackaged product line announced last week by Dialogic and known as the PowerMedia suite. Designed to enable operators to deliver multimedia over a range of networks, from 4G mobile systems to the PSTN, the new portfolio of media servers and software builds on Dialogic’s family of media processing algorithms, including proprietary video codec technology developed at Dialogic Media Labs.
In particular, inCloud9 will assist developers in building applications around the PowerMedia Web Media Server, created to fuel voice and video-enabled Web 2.0 applications. WMS uses an HTTP RESTful-based interface that’s popular with many Web developers.
“We’re helping create a new level of interaction, beyond Web 2.0, to bring realtime communications to these sites,” said Ken Osowski, director of product marketing for Dialogic's service provider market group. “It’s a different view of the world, for media processing and for product design.”
In May, Dialogic said it would acquire Veraz Networks. Combining two leading-edge vendors in the advanced IP services space, the Veraz addition gives Dialogic the switching infrastructure, security and bandwidth optimization to layer around the media gateways and media servers it has developed over the last few years. It also should enable Dialogic, which has mainly sold media gateways and signaling technology, to move up the stack and provide a more complete line of softswitches and application platforms.
