Frontier Communications Corp. on Wednesday announced that it has integrated 345 Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) systems into its networks to improve optical network flexibility and manageability.
In a press release, Frontier noted that by the middle of the year it will have added more than 6,500 miles of ROADM network.
The telecommunications provider deployed a network based on Tellabs’ Optical Solutions, including the Tellabs 7100 Optical Transport System and the Tellabs Nano Optical Transport System.
Stamford, Conn.-based Frontier said it can now deliver more than 30 types of residential or business services, such as Ethernet, Session Internet Protocol, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Dedicated Internet Access Services.
“The ability of ROADM technology to remotely configure new optical channels within the network lets us optimize bandwidth use and significantly reduce service activation cost and time," said Frontier’s Michael Golob, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Technology. “This results in increased customer satisfaction and it maximizes the value of company assets."
Frontier served about 3.4 million residential customers and 343,800 business customers at the end of 2010.
The company plans to release its first-quarter 2011 results on Thursday, May 5.
