Funambol has furthered its push into the increasingly crowded cloud space by announcing that the simyo Sync service, based on Funambol’s MediaHub, is now live.

simyo Sync allows you to keep mobile phones, tablets, PCs and other devices in sync with a digital locker in the cloud. It backs up user data and is designed to allow easy access across multiple devices.

simyo, a European MVNO, is part of Netherlands-based telco giant KPN, providing wireless services to more than 1 million customers. simyo says it picked Funambol for its flexible data and device support, as well as rapid time-to-market.

Funambol just launched its MediaHub “xCloud" three weeks ago. It wirelessly syncs rich media (e.g. pictures and videos), files and PIM data (e.g. contacts and calendar) between mobile phones, tablets, personal computers and MS Outlook via the cloud. It also allows rich media to be wirelessly shared with social networks and media sites such as Facebook, Picasa, Flickr and YouTube. The company touts xCloud as an alternative to Apple’s iCloud in that it works with carriers and covers multiple operating systems, including Android, Apple iOS devices and BlackBerry phones.
