3D may be a bit slow in taking off, but when (if) it becomes widely embraced, advertisers will be looking for more opportunities to get their messages out there.
AdJitsu, Cooliris’ new standalone immersive 3D ads business unit, is teaming up with mobile-ad company Amobee in a partnership the two say will help big brands deliver global, cutting-edge 3D immersive ad campaigns to users on any mobile device and network. Amobee plans to implement Cooliris’ technology into its mobile-ad campaigns to give premium advertisers the opportunity to produce real-time, 3D virtual product experiences.
Amobee hopes the team-up will help it take on Apple’s mobile-ad service, head-on. “… Mobile advertising is incredibly engaging and effective," said Trevor Healy, Amobee CEO. “We intend to leapfrog iAd and drive mobile advertising to an entirely new experience."
Up until now, consumers just haven’t been ready to embrace the technology, particularly in the home. The high cost of 3D televisions and related technology is a major barrier to this point. That’s made many content providers hesitant – most aren’t pushing out 3D content in droves. Citing low viewership and the high cost to carry the network, AT&T recently dropped the fledgling ESPN 3D from its U-verse TV lineup.
