Netflix has signed up its 1 millionth subscriber in Canada less than a year after launching service north of the border.

The company announced reaching the milestone in July when Amanda Bell James of Flin Flon, Manitoba, joined Netflix and won a lifetime membership to the streaming video subscription service.

In September 2010, Los Gatos, Calif.-based Netflix launched service in Canada – its first international market.

Netflix is gearing up to expand into Mexico, the Caribbean and South America under an ambitious strategy to court subscribers in 43 countries.

Last month, the company announced reaching a two-year licensing agreement with CBS Corporation that will enable Netflix to offer CBS TV shows in Canada and Latin America. Terms of the agreement were not revealed.

In the second quarter ending June 30, 2011, revenues at Netflix climbed 51.7 percent to $788.6 million as the company courted 1.96 million customers to end the three-month period with 25.56 million subscribers.
