In an advertisement on its YouTube page, Verizon Wireless indicates that the highly anticipated Motorola Droid Bionic will be available on Sept. 8, 2011.

The date is featured about 27 seconds into the 30-second advertisement.

Running on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the Motorola Droid Bionic is said to feature a 4.3-inch touchcreen and include a 1GHz, dual-core processor, two cameras and full 1080p HD videorecording capability.

Many have anticipated the Bionic to be a rival to Apple's iPhone since the Motorola handset was first announced at the beginning of the year. But delays in its release have taken a lot of the luster off its once-glossy shine. Since then, many other high-powered Android smartphones have hit the market or been promised by manufacturers to be available by the end of the year.

Look to hear more on this device from Verizon Wireless next week. Earlier this week, it was revealed that the carrier will not carry another highly anticipated smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II, which has been breaking some sales records overseas.
