It seems as though tablet computers keep getting cheaper every month.

Leader International Inc. has introduced a seven-inch tablet that has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $179.00. That’s $20 less than Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

Leader’s Impression 7 tablet runs an older version of the Android (version 2.2) operating system, but the Pasadena, Calif.-based manufacturer contends the device will suit the entertainment needs of customers.

“The seven-inch screen is perfect for web, email, music, games and videos," said Gary Bennett, Leader International’s VP of Sales, North America. “Plus, unlike other popular tablets, the I7 allows for additional memory and delivers more functionality with an SD slot and USB port."

Leader will ship the tablet in early November, the same month Amazon’s Kindle Fire is hitting the retail market.

Apple has been dominating the tablet computer market with its iPad, but lower-priced models like the Kindle Fire and I7 could appeal to shoppers on a tight budget during the holidays.
