AT&T has introduced a device that lets its U-verse TV customers move the boob tube to rooms that don’t have a television outlet.
The AT&T U-verse TV Wireless Receiver – costing a one-time fee of $49 and a $7 per month receiver rental fee – will be available for order on Monday, Oct. 31.
AT&T, which serves 3.6 million U-verse TV customers based on third-quarter results, explained its wireless receiver will allow customers to arrange a room to fit their particular style since they don’t have to worry about hooking up their big screen to the TV outlet. The Dallas-based telecommunications giant found in a customer survey that more than two-thirds of respondents said it was very or somewhat important to have the freedom to move the television from one location to another without needing a TV outlet.
Setting up the wireless receiver is relatively straightforward, according to AT&T: The wireless receiver connects to the television and plugs into a power outlet.
“For decades, the TV outlet has dictated how viewers can arrange their furniture and where they place their TV," said David Christopher, chief marketing officer of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, in a statement. “Now, for the first time, customers have the freedom to move the TV virtually whenever and wherever they want to, without a special appointment with a service technician. It’s another innovation for U-verse TV."
The video below shows a demo of how the system works. There is a limit of two wireless receivers per home and the device may not be available to all customers.
