SkitterTV is a hybrid IPTV/over-the-top video platform. It allows service providers to encode, configure, deliver and monetize streaming media services by combining live TV, audio, Web video and personal media assets into one converged system. SkitterTV wanted the ability to deliver both traditional IPTV services and a new layer of content delivered over the open Internet, including video-on-demand, gaming, applications and user-generated content.
The Aminet STBs chosen by SkitterTV use HLS (HTTP live streaming) and HTML5. HLS works by selecting optimum network speeds over open and unmanaged networks to ensure a continuous, high-quality TV service, Amino said. It also enhances content choice by delivering video-on-demand and live TV from aggregated and cloud-based services without additional investment in network infrastructure.
HTML5 provides a standardized framework for video and audio playback inside the browser, and Amino says it will further enrich the viewing experience by allowing operators to create a rich walled garden of OTT content for their customers.
“Amino has provided us with the ideal set-top box solution – and the kind of value added experienced technical and customer support that will help us deliver a compelling offering to our customers," said SkitterTV CEO Robert Saunders. “The A140 [STB model] is a proven performer in the IPTV market – and these recent OTT enhancements are right for our service offering and the way the market is moving towards a blend of core entertainment services and the excitement of the open Internet."
