Cablevision Systems Corp. on Friday revealed losing 19,000 video customers in the third quarter, representing the second operator over the last two days to report shrinkage in its cable television customer base.
However, the New York-based communications company managed to add nearly 17,000 high-speed data lines and roughly 38,000 voice lines.
Video losses were fewer than the 26,000 average estimate of nine analysts that Bloomberg surveyed.
Consolidated net revenues grew 8 percent to $1.666 billion thanks to the December 2010 acquisition of Bresnan properties. The company served about 3.626 million customers as of Sept. 30.
But Cablevision’s profit dropped to $39.6 million from roughly $112.4 million in the year-ago quarter.
Cablevision was not the only cable TV operator to report video losses this week: Time Warner Cable on Thursday lost 128,000 video customers to end the third quarter with 11.939 million video subscribers.
Revenues at Time Warner Cable rose 3.7 percent year over year to $4.9 billion but net income attributable to shareholders fell slightly from $360 million or $1.00 per basic common share to $356 million or $1.09 per basic common share.
