Video will soon represent a huge percentage of traffic on mobile networks, according to at least one report.
Global mobile video traffic will constitute more than 60 percent of worldwide mobile data traffic by 2016, according to Visiongain, an independent business information provider. In a report, “Mobile Video & TV on Smartphones: Market Drivers and Challenges Report 2011 – 2016," Visiongain predicts that the market will increase at a compound annual growth rate of 28 percent with revenues climbing to $22.5 billion by 2016.
But Visiongain said the mobile video/TV market faces several challenges during the forecast period. For example, mobile video and TV services are pressuring third-generation networks, London-basd Visiongain said. Operators will move to LTE networks to solve the bandwidth and capacity issues, according to the company.
“Operators do not want to lose revenues from data intensive services such as mobile video and TV and will embrace LTE with full gusto," Visiongain asserted in a press release.
