A judge on Friday denied Apple Inc.'s request for a preliminary injunction against Samsung Electronics Co. to ban the sale of three smartphones and a tablet computer in the United States.
But in a 65-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh said Apple ultimately may succeed in showing Samsung copied ideas from its iPhone and iPad for its Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy Tab computer when the case is tried in July, The Wall Street Journal reported.
"It is not clear that an injunction on Samsung's accused devices would prevent Apple from being irreparably harmed," Reuters quoted the judge in the ruling.
In April, Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple sued Samsung in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging that the Seoul, South Korea-based handset maker's Galaxy line of products infringe on a number of Apple trademarks and patents.
The two tech giants are pitted against each other in litigation around the world over their intellectual property.
