Barnes & Noble has introduced what it is calling its fastest and lightest tablet: the NOOK Tablet.

The device is available for pre-order at www.nook.com and at Barnes & Nobles stores on or about Nov. 17 for $249.

Featuring a display with 16 million colors, the NOOK Tablet offers access to apps, email and fast Web browsing as well as the option to stream movies, TV shows and other content through such entertainment services as Hulu Plus, Netflix and Pandora.

Users can typically download content in less than 10 seconds over Wi-Fi, according to Barnes & Noble.

The tablet features a seven-inch touchscreen and can wirelessly access the Internet via Wi-Fi. William Lynch, CEO of Barnes & Noble, claims the tablet's "display has been designed to be the world's finest screen for readability and viewing content."

In related news, Barnes & Noble announced enhancements and new prices for certain e-readers. Starting in December, the NOOK Color will include more than 100 feature enhancements and is now priced at $199. That's down from a price of $250, according to The Los Angeles Times. Barnes & Noble also announced a new price of $99 for the NOOK Simple Touch.
