A recent BlackBerry sales event in Indonesia turned from excitement to anarchy after a thousand people busted through a barricade at a mall in order to get a smartphone, the Bold 9790.
Authorities now have charged a suspect in connection with Friday's chaotic event that led to at least 90 people fainting and several injuries at a South Jakarta mall, reported the Jakarta Globe.
"We have named one person a suspect, from the event organizers," the report quoted the chief of South Jakarta Police, as saying. "We have charged [the suspect] with violating Article 360 of the Criminal Code, for negligence which resulted in severe injuries."
Organizers of the event reportedly lured the massive crowd by selling the BlackBerry Bold 9790 for $250 to the first 1,000 customers. But impatience and frustration caused the crowd to gush through a protective barrier, and many people were crushed.
