A number of African-American workers for Comcast Corp. claim in a federal lawsuit filed in Chicago that the cable giant has been discriminating against them.
Ten employees in Comcast's South Side facility as well as one former worker who was fired in 2009 allege that the company subjected them to a "hostile" work environment where they were called such derogatory names as "ghetto techs" or "lazy techs," the Chicago Tribune reported.
The plaintiffs, who are asking the court to certify the case as a class action, also contend the South Side operation was infested with rats and roaches, and that the facility had a leaky roof and was not temperature-controlled until 2009 when it was renovated, according to the report.
Philadelphia-based Comcast denied the allegations in the complaint, which has been filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
