Facebook fans, here's something to look forward to: a smartphone dedicated to the social networking site.

The company has selected HTC, the Taiwanese handset maker, to build a device that makes Facebook the centerpiece of its design, All Things Digital reported.

Sources familiar with the project told ATD that the phone is expected to run on a modified version of Android – Google's increasingly popular operating system – that Facebook has changed significantly in order to deeply integrate its services.

The reported code name of the handset? "Buffy," after the vampire slayer on TV played by Sarah Michelle Gellar.

If Facebook zealots are bloodthirsty to get their hands on Buffy, they may want to temper their enthusiasm: The phone may not hit the streets for a year or even longer, according to the report.
