Nokia Poised for U.S. Comeback with AT&T

Nokia, which has seen its handset market share drop considerably over the past few years – particularly in the U.S. – could make its presence felt again in a big way if a deal with AT&T goes through.

Speaking at an investor conference this week in Barcelona, AT&T device guru Glenn Lurie said the carrier and the manufacturer are finalizing an agreement that would make Nokia's Oyj smartphones, which run on the Windows Phone operating system, available through America's second-largest wireless carrier in the near future.

Apple and a slew of Android-producing smartphone manufacturers have made it a tough go for Nokia as of late, but a relatively new partnership with Microsoft is helping the Finland-based company deliver new devices on a new platform – something it desperately needed. And while Windows Phone hasn't yet caught on like wildfire, many analysts predict it could be the second or third most prevalent OS just a couple of years from now if all goes well.
