TV Everywhere, the ability to watch programming on multiple screens like laptops, tablets and smartphones, is becoming a global phenomenon.
NPD In-Stat, the research and consulting firm, anticipates that 273 million homes will use some kind of multiscreen service by 2015 with the Asia Pacific region leading active adoption.
As pay TV operators accelerate their TV Everywhere initiatives to compete with the likes of Netflix, revenues from multiscreen content platforms will exceed $21 billion in 2015, according to an NPD In-Stat forecast in recent research, "Worldwide Multiscreen Content Delivery Platforms," which covers six regions and examines a number of companies such as Apple, Comcast, Cisco, Google, Hulu, Microsoft and Netflix.
“Consumers now expect to have professional video available on an ever-expanding number of devices, and they want their ‘user experience’ to be under their control," said NPD In-Stat Research Director Gerry Kaufhold. “It's no longer simply a matter of delivering 1080p 3D video to their device, they want to share what they are viewing with their connected community, they want to upload their own additions to the content, and they want to be able to engage with their content on whatever device provides the best experience at any particular time."
