On Christmas, millions of people must have received iPhones, iPads and Android-powered wireless gadgets like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Flurry, a mobile applications analytics firm, reports that 6.8 million iOS and Android devices were activated on Dec. 25. That figure represents a 353 percent increase over the daily average of 1.5 million activations during the period Dec. 1-20, Flurry's vice president of marketing, Peter Farago, wrote.

Android and iOS are the mobile operating systems contained in popular wireless gadgets like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and iPhone and powered by Google and Apple. The demand for such devices continues to climb.

"Compared to Christmas Day 2010, the previous single-day record, with 2.8 million device activations, Christmas 2011 grew by more than 140 percent," Farago said.

Andy Rubin, Google's senior vice president of mobile, recently reported on Twitter that 3.7 million Android devices were activated on Dec. 24 and Christmas. Earlier in the month, he said more than 700,000 Android devices are activated daily.
