The iPad and Apple's iOS-enabled devices are the most common mobile-shopping devices, according to a study that was recently released.

Roughly 92 percent of mobile sales were made on these devices in December 2011, revealed RichRelevance, a company that helps retailers increase sales and customer engagement.

"The numbers across our retailing partners site demonstrate just how powerful the iOS platform is enabling mobile Web shopping and, while still below 5 percent in total conversion, mobile traffic's doubling in eight months is a trend we only see accelerating," RichRelevance CEO David Selinger said in a statement. "In order to succeed in this dynamic market, retailers and brands must ensure they are addressing relevance throughout the channels where people are shopping, ensuring a seamless experience across the interplay of device, context and consumer behavior."

The study also found that Apple's mobile devices boast a larger average order value ($123) compared to $101 for Android devices in December 2011.

In December, mobile devices represented 3.74 percent of U.S. online retail dollars, up from 1.87 in April 2011, said RichRelevance, whose Holiday Shopping Study analyzed 3.4 billion shopping sessions between April and December.
