Step aside Netflix.
Verizon Communications plans to launch a service that would allow customers to stream movies and TV shows over the Internet, Reuters reported, citing several people briefed on the plan.
The New York-based telecommunications titan could roll out the service in 2012, the sources said.
Some caveats: The programming package would be limited in scope and Verizon would provide such a Web TV service outside of its markets where it offers FiOS television, according to the report.
A Verizon spokesman declined to comment to Reuters.
