Are you hungry for 4G services?
Try Verizon Wireless, whose LTE network now covers about 200 million Americans in 190 U.S. markets.
The largest U.S. wireless operator on Thursday activated its high-speed network in 11 additional markets while expanding its infrastructure in seven other markets.
Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Verizon Wireless noted its 4G build marks a record of sorts.
"Introducing the 4G LTE network has been the fastest rollout of any next-generation network in our history," said David Small, chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless, in a statement. "That's more than twice as fast as our 3G network rollout."
The company's 4G customers should receive average date rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink, the carrier said.
Verizon's rival, AT&T, is building out a 4G network but at a slower pace. AT&T's LTE network is available in 15 markets, and the Dallas-based company is in the process of activating the network in New York City and other markets this month.
"We’ll continue to roll out 4G LTE over the coming months and expect that deployment will be largely complete by year-end 2013," AT&T spokeswoman McCall Butler recently told V2M.
