Fujitsu has been selected to supply optical and transport equipment for AT&T's growing IP-based network.

AT&T on Friday announced the multi-year selection covers equipment used to expand and maintain its metropolitan and long-haul infrastructure.

Dallas-based AT&T picked Fujitsu under its Domain Supplier program, which the telecommunications carrier explained facilitates a more collaborative relationship with its equipment and software suppliers.

AT&T said it is still negotiating the financial terms of the agreement with Fujitsu.

Mobile broadband growth and wired broadband usage is continuing to drive additional traffic on AT&T's backbone network, which AT&T said carries more than 28.9 petabytes of traffic on an average business day and includes about 917,000 route miles of fiber-optic cable.
