AT&T will be the dominant U.S. carrier that will make the headlines at next week's consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, research firm Ovum predicts.
Ovum believes AT&T will launch several devices at the 2012 International CES, which is being held Jan. 10-13.
"We expect not as much from Verizon Wireless, which had lots of device launches last year," Ovum said, although the firm anticipates that Verizon Wireless will make more announcements at Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona.
Ovum said it's likely Research in Motion will showcase its next tablet operating system tablet at CES, but expressed doubts as to whether the embattled BlackBerry maker would introduce the PlayBook 2 or announce the next-generation tablet computer at another time. Sales of the PlayBook have been disappointing and the device has failed to measure up to the continuing popularity of Apple's iPad.
Among other trends, Ovum expects that additional Android-powered tablets will be unveiled at CES, including Samsung's Windows 8 tablet and devices that incorporate Google's new operating system with a catchy name: Ice Cream Sandwich.
