Bostonians: brace yourselves for a more costly cable bill.

The average cable bill for Comcast customers is about to increase by 2.9 percent in Greater Boston, with the rate hike beginning with next month's billing cycle, the Boston Globe reported.

A Comcast spokesperson, the report said, cited "the impact of higher programming costs and increased operating expenses."

This is Comcast's second rate increase in Beantown in less than a year. Comcast raised rates in 2011, the Globe reported, prompting Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino to petition the Federal Communications Commission to give the city power to determine basic cable rates.
