The biggest U.S. mobile operator reportedly plans to introduce voice over LTE services across the nation in early 2013.
Verizon Wireless "has two cities now trialing [VoLTE] and plans for national rollout in early 2013," Light Reading Mobile quoted Catharine Trebnick, VP of Northland Capital Markets, as stating.
Verizon Wireless said last year that VoLTE will allow customers to make calls and use applications at the same time and features better sound quality than traditional wired and mobile-phone calls, according to an article in The New York Times. "Adding VoLTE capabilities represents one of the most significant transformations our network will undergo since it was built," the Times quoted a Verizon Wireless spokesperson as stating.
Verizon Wireless hasn't confirmed its timeline on VoLTE.
"We're continuing to work on VoLTE and the services it brings," a Verizon Wireless spokesperson told Light Reading Mobile by email, "and will share any launch or availability plans in due course."
