Motorola Mobility, Inc. and Verizon Wireless on Monday unveiled the new DROID 4 at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas.
Just half an inch thin and powered by Google's Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system, the smartphone features a five-row QWERTY keyboard and comes equipped with a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and government-grade encryption to protect the security of data, according to the companies. The Gingerbread platform can be upgraded to Android's 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
The smartphone also features a 4-inch qHD display with scratch and scrape resistant glass and an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture and Mirror Mode to display images and videos on an HD television. Some other capabilities of the DROID 4 include a MotoCast software tool for remote streaming of photos, videos and other content from home or office computers and a Smart Actions app to automate daily tasks.
Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. wireless operator, anticipates selling the DROID 4 at its stores and online in the coming weeks. Motorola Mobility and Verizon Wireless are showing the smartphone this week at their respective booths (Verizon: South Hall, Booth #30259) (Motorola: Central Hall, Booth #8644) at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
