iPhone app downloads increased significantly as the holiday season came to a close.
At the end of December 2011, a record 6.04 million apps were downloaded each day, a 7 percent increase from the daily high of 5.45 million in November, mobile ad firm Fisku revealed in new research.
The increase in app downloads could be attributed, in part, to advertisers.
Advertisers spent twice as much during the last week of the holidays than in the prior weeks to bump up their app store rankings.
"This presented advertisers with sufficient budgets the rare chance to acquire twice as many loyal users," noted Fiksu. "For many major app brands, and game apps in particular, this exceptional opportunity certainly justified increased budgets. Eager consumers actively downloaded apps on their new devices, and the brands that had secured higher ranks were able to acquire a higher volume of loyal app users."
In the final quarter of 2011, Apple sold 37 million iPhones, which obviously led to an increase in app downloads.
