Samsung has decided to delay the launch of its newest smartphone. The Galaxy S III won't make an appearance at Mobile World Congress 2012.
The Galaxy S III handset, which is the successor to the globally popular, Android-based Galaxy S II, will not debut at the conference in Barcelona this month and instead will be announced sometime later in the first half of the year, a company spokesperson told The Verge.
The extension of the smartphone's release date came as a result of Samsung's hesitance to have a large gap between the global launch and U.S. availability, the report said.
While the Galaxy S III will not be at MWC, Samsung will still have a presence at the conference. The company plans to introduce and demonstrate, "exciting new mobile products."
The Galaxy S III likely won't be the only smartphone delayed early in 2012. A report surfaced earlier this week that predicted many manufacturers would push back handset releases in order to avoid competing directly with the iPhone 4S, which is still selling quite well.
