Yankee Group today announced the sale of the 4G World trade show and exposition business to UBM plc, a global media company.

Over the past 12 months, Yankee Group has implemented a new research strategy, focused on understanding the attitudes, behaviors and usage patterns of mobile users as well as exploring enabling technologies and emerging business models across the mobile ecosystem.

The exit from the 4G World trade show and exposition business allows the research firm to focus exclusively on research and advisory services, as well as concentrate investment into new products.

"This announcement is great news for 4G World, its attendees and its sponsors," said Terry Waters, Yankee Group president and CEO. "UBM is a company dedicated to media, trade shows and expositions. They have the right skill set to take the show to the next level and they are very excited about the opportunity to lead the growth of the show moving forward."

4G World events in 2012 are scheduled for Singapore in April and Chicago in October.
